A SALUTE TO OLD GLORY

I'm always at every Ballgame And at all our holiday parades too; I enjoy the bright airy spaces ----And rambling skies of blue. I'm officially present for funerals In fact, I go almost every day; I stand tall but silently alone As others bow their hearts to pray. I go off to all foreign battlefields Where my country's brave have been; I stand erect in school classrooms ----As diverse students all file in. Although I'm not high maintenance I remain fabulously First Class---- My colors of Red,White and Blue ---Are absolutely eternally priceless. I stand strong for American freedoms For all citizens---old and newborn too; My official name is still OLD GLORY --I'll fly forever courageously for you! 2013 by Douglas Raymond Rose Member Academy of American Poets

MOTHERS ARE NATIONAL TREASURES

"I have eyes in the back of my head: My dear Mother used to say; A Mother knows and understands What a child does not even say/ A Mother's arms are made for tenderness Loving ears for compassionate care; Her dancing eyes are eager to observe What truly is happening there. Her grand heart is ever open All 24 hours of every day A Mother knows and understands What her child does not even say. Her wise advice follows her children All along life's bustling way; Understanding mothers are National Treasures May God Bless all our dear Mothers today. 2013 by Douglas Raymond Rose Member Academy of American Poets
